The UK government recently announced their plans to ban single-use plastics, it has been a long time coming in my opinion and merely a start to reducing our nations waste.
It is estimated that 13 billion plastic carrier bags are used in the UK each year. Shoppers worldwide are using approximately 500 billion single-use plastic bags per year. according to ;

This is just bags! Let alone all the other single use plastics we get through which have been an ongoing issue since the day they become readily available... however it is very positive to hear that bans will be put in place and that unnecessary use of plastic will be removed from the high-street and supermarkets.
Also positive is the fact that Morrison's supermarkets have begun leading by example and have rolled out some plastic free fruit and veg in their store's!
Quite possibly one of my most resented types of packaging as I prefer to buy everything loose and its near impossible in most supermarkets! Not only that, the loose ones can at times be more expensive than the plastic covered ones which is a crying shame as it acts as a deterrent to the plastic contentious shoppers!
There is work to do still but we are moving in the right direction for sure! Its great to see a major UK business setting an example and they for sure have won me over for my fruit and veg shopping!
